Henry’s parents were:  John DRAKE, born 11 November 1782, Exmouth, Devon, England; died 24 June 1867, 27 Park Village East, Regent’s Park, London, England; and Maria STORY, born 17 November 1783, Sunderland, County Durham, England; died 13 February 1876, 3 Park Village East, Regent’s Park, London, England. They married 7 December 1805, Bloomsbury, London, England.

  1. John Minshull DRAKE, born 31 May 1807, Cheriton, Kent, England; died 7 July 1861, Dinapore, Bengal, India. Married (1) Caroline GRIMES, 22 May 1838, Devon, England. Caroline, born 1814; died 3 April 1848, Landour, Bengal, India. Seven children, of whom four survived to adulthood. Married (2) Margaret McLean DRING (née TODD), 21 March 1850, Lahore, West Bengal, India. Margaret, born 3 January 1821; died 13 October 1884, San Remo, Buckfastleigh, England. At least two daughters.

  2. William Henry DRAKE, born 29 January 1809; died April 1810.

  3. William Henry DRAKE, born 29 September 1812, Coimbra, Portugal; died 28 January 1882, Bayswater, London.

  4. Caroline DRAKE, born 12 June 1816, Bloomsbury, London, England. Married Dr. Bernard Manning BROWNE, 26 January 1836, Exmouth, Devon, England. Bernard, born c. 1809; died 28 January 1872, Brighton, Sussex, England. Three children.

  5. Charlotte Augusta DRAKE, born 30 April 1818, Bloomsbury, London, England; died before July 1905. Never married.

  6. Maria Harriet (Molly) DRAKE, born 17 January 1821; died 5 February 1892, Brighton, Sussex, England. Married her first cousin, Edward Marshall WHITE, 1 October 1844, Jersey. Edward, born 15 November 1812, Westminster, London, England; died 7 March 1887, Brighton, Sussex, England. Two daughters.

First marriage

  1. John DRAKE, born 15 September 1834, Perth, WA; died 18 August 1877, Sydney, NSW. Married Matilda Elizabeth ORMISTON, 13 August 1857, Sydney, NSW. Matilda, born 12 February 1837, Sydney, NSW; died 14 February 1878, Sydney, NSW. Eight children, of whom seven survived to adulthood.

  2. Louisa Maria (Lou) DRAKE, born 18 July 1836, Perth, WA; died 16 May 1876, Dunedin, New Zealand. Married William Henry LATHBURY, 18 October 1873, Sydney, NSW. William, born 29 September 1843, Staffordshire, England; died 7 March 1884, Charters Towers, Queensland. Two sons, both of whom died in infancy.

  3. Charlotte Augusta Dring (Pop) DRAKE, born 10 March 1838, King George’s Sound, WA; died 6 May 1922, Redhill, Surrey, England. Married (1) Charles Henry MARSHALL, 23 September 1857, London. Charles, born 12 December 1818, Mauritius; died 10 August 1874, Lewisham, Kent, England. Six children, all of whom survived to adulthood. Married (2) William KNIGHTON, 10 July 1883, London, England. William, born 16 January 1824; died 31 March 1900, Hastings, Sussex, England. No children.

  4. Laura Mary (Loll) DRAKE, born 1 June 1843, Perth, WA; died 25 December 1922, South Africa. Married Dr. James GOOD, 25 August 1865, London, England. James, born c. 1834; died 1 July 1890, Birkenshaw, Yorkshire, England. Five children, all of whom survived to adulthood.

  5. Emily Caroline DRAKE, born 28 February 1845, Perth, WA; died 28 October 1853, St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Purkis family

Louisa’s parents were: James PURKIS, born 12 July 1783, London, England; died 4 December 1853, Perth, Western Australia; and Elizabeth Sarah VINER, born 19 April 1782, Bath, Somerset, England; died 18 July 1849, Perth, Western Australia. They married 17 April 1808, Bath, England. They had eight children.

  1. James PURKIS, born 8 April 1809, London, England; died 20 November 1824.

  2. Anna PURKIS, born 4 October 1810; died 18 September 1811.

  3. John PURKIS, born 12 July 1812, London, England; died 27 December 1882, Sydney, New South Wales. Married Fanny Delia KELLY, 3 August 1850, Sydney, New South Wales. Fanny, born c. 1829; died 1 May 1897, Manly, Sydney, New South Wales. No children.

  4. Louisa PURKIS, born 28 January 1814, London, England; died 20 October 1862, Grahamstown, South Africa.

  5. Elizabeth (Bessie or Betsy) PURKIS, born 28 June 1815, London, England; died 2 June 1901, Albany, Western Australia. Married Alfred HILLMAN, 18 November 1840, Perth, Western Australia. Alfred, born 21 November 1807, Woolwich, London, England; died 31 January 1883, London, England. Nine children, five of whom survived to adulthood.

  7. Frederick George PURKIS, born 1819, Norwood, Surrey, England; died 27 September 1888, Alexandria, Sydney, New South Wales. Married Ellen DOOR, 19 December 1854, Wollongong, New South Wales. I have not been able to ascertain whether he had any children or not.

  8. Emma PURKIS, born 7 August 1821, London, England; died 18 June 1908, Perth, Western Australia. Married Francis LOCHEE, 27 August 1846, Perth, Western Australia. Francis, born 8 March 1811, London, England; died 22 November 1893, Perth, Western Australia. Eight children, five of whom survived to adulthood.

James PURKIS married (2) Mary Ann, widow of George MARTIN, 8 November 1851, Fremantle, Western Australia. Mary Ann, born c. 1799; died 7 April 1893, Mahogany Creek, Western Australia. No children.
