At the request of Deputy Commissary General Drake, I have the honor respectfully to submit for the consideration of the Commander of the Forces, the accompanying letter representing the special nature of his services with this Expedition, and which I trust may be favourably received by His Excellency.

Sept. 30. Sunday. Meeting of Commission Mixte at Genl. Niel’s. Barracks (Alexander) at Sevastopol on fire. Steamers not to leave the Harbor.
Oct. 1. Meeting of Commission Mixte & signing of Proces Verbal at Genl. Niel’s. Orders for the embarkation of some troops.
Oct. 2. Fine. I sent copy of Sir G. Maclean’s recommendation to Genl. Simpson of my Letter of 23rd Sept. Went to Head Quarters on Mixed Commission. Mrs. Mitchell & Mr. J. T. [sic] Mitchell of K.D. Gds. 2 dined with us. Showery at night.
